Rowena joined the Glen Dimplex Group in 2004 after successful careers in International Marketing in the pharmaceutical and beverage industries. With 20 years’ experience in International Sales and Marketing and Project Management, Rowena took up the role of Project Director in Glen Dimplex in 2015, working mainly in the area of energy storage, demand side management and the connected electric home. In her current role, Rowena has overall responsibility for the RealValue project, and is an active member of key lobbying associations in the energy sector in Brussels including Eurelectric and the European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE) where she sits on the Executive Board. She is highly involved in the Horizon 2020 Smart Grid and Energy Storage BRIDGE Initiative and is the current Rapporteur of the Business Models Working Group.

Mark O’Malley is Chief Scientist, Energy Systems Integration and Senior Research Fellow at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, USA. He is on sabbatical from University College Dublin where he holds the Chair of Electrical Engineering. He was the founding director of the International Institute for Energy Systems Integration which evolved into the Energy Systems Integration Group where he chairs the Research and Education Working Group. In 2017 he was the James M. Flaherty Visiting Professor at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He is a foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineers, member of the Royal Irish Academy and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and has received two Fulbright Fellowships. Mark is recognized as a world authority on Energy Systems Integration and Grid Integration of Renewable Energy.

In the last ten years, Rémy Dénos has served as a scientific officer and policy officer in the field of aeronautics and energy in research and innovation programmes of the European Commission such as FP7 and Horizon 2020.

Currently he is dealing with several initiatives in the field of smart grid, storage and energy systems such as the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, the BRIDGE initiative which coordinates H2020 projects in the field and the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Smart Networks for the Energy Transition (ETIP SNET)

David has over 20 years ICT industry experience. His career has ranged from enterprise IT to product development to research & innovation. For the past seven years he has worked in Intel Labs where he currently leads the IOT Innovation & Research practice with the mission of identifying, demonstrating and seeding disruptive business models that capitalise on IOT and may expand Intel’s core business.

He has built and engaged in a variety of internal and collaborative research initiatives and is responsible for a number of H2020 projects. David holds several patents and represents Intel on a number of external bodies.

Mr Clerens studied law at the University of Saarbrücken and the University of Mainz. Since 1996, he has worked as a consultant for a private company specialising in European Affairs in Brussels. In his capacity as Brussels Representative of different European associations, he has been involved in the climate and energy field since 2003.

He has managed the EASE office in Brussels as Secretary General since its establishment in September 2011. Since then, EASE has grown from the initial 13 founding members to almost 40.

Sarah Darby is Acting Programme Leader with the Lower Carbon Futures team at the Environmental Change Institute – University of Oxford.  Sarah holds a BSc in Ecological Science from Edinburgh University, a postgraduate Diploma in Planning from Oxford Polytechnic and a DPhil from Oxford University (Awareness, Action and Feedback in Domestic Energy Use). Her main research interests are in the everyday implications of smart grids, and she also contributes to teaching on the MSc course in Environmental Change and Management. Within the RealValue project, she has led the Customer Impact Study work focussed on customer perceptions, preferences and actions in relation to storage heating in Ireland, Germany and Latvia; and she has contributed to the assessment of regulatory and policy requirements for demand response using thermal storage. Marco Demuth has been Managing Director of beegy since its founding in 2014. Prior to the formal foundation of beegy, Marco initiated and developed the beegy venture whilst still working within MVV Energie AG.

beegy provides integrated decentral energy solutions, which are marketed to end customers through white label partners using their own brand. Marco’s key responsibilities at beegy are Strategic Management, Business Development, and Alliances and Sales. Marco has extensive experience in the energy and service industry. Prior to joining beegy, he worked for more than 20 years in leading management positions for several well-known companies including EnBW, YelloStrom and DHL (Deutsche Post).

Dr. Olegs Linkevics received Dipl. Eng., M.Sc. and PhD degrees from Riga Technical University in 1994, 1996 and 2008 respectively.

In 1995, Olegs started his career in the Latvian national power utility AS Latvenergo.   In his 23 years at the company, he has progressed from his starting position of Planning Engineer to the Head of Development for the Research & Development department.  His main competences are preparation of development programs and strategies, research and feasibility studies.

ince 2009, Dr. Linkevics has also been an Associate Professor in Riga Technical University’s Faculty of Electrical and Power Engineering. He teaches an introductory course on the ‘Basics of Electric and Heat Engineering’ to first year students, participates in scientific research work, and supervises several thesis students for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Karsten Neuhoff is head of Climate Policy at the German Institute for Economic Research and Professor at the Economics and Management Faculty of Technical University Berlin. He has published on power market design, innovation policy and governance, finance, and instruments of climate policy. He is leading various research and advice projects for the European Commission and governments of EU member states. He holds a diploma in Physics from the University of Heidelberg, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Jonathan has spent over 20 years working in the electricity industry in the planning, operation and markets design. He has been central to the implementation of the first electricity market in Ireland in 2000 and the first all island market in 2007, and the development of the ‘Delivering a Secure Sustainable Power System’ (DS3) programme which will deliver the secure and reliable operation of the Ireland and Northern Ireland power system with unprecedented levels of wind electricity by 2020. In his current role as Manager Innovation, Jonathan drives general innovation in the EirGrid group as well as specific technology strategies which include DS3, distributed power flow control devices, solar and storage. He is an active member of ENTSO-E, where he contributes to working groups and committees on innovation, research, markets and renewables, long term market design and TSO-DSO interaction.

David leads SSE Airtricity’s Innovation team and has worked for SSE since 2013. In his role he focuses on the delivery of business strategic goals in the areas of Energy Storage, Renewables and Demand Side Management. He has worked in the energy industry in various management roles over the last six years.

David has held roles as diverse as corporate R&D and innovation, programme management, stakeholder management, business development and knowledge transfer.  David sits on the RealValue Project Steering Board and is leading the development of future innovation initiatives for SSE Airtricity.

Jonathan Sandham is currently in charge of the Smart Networks function within ESB Networks, with responsibility for insight and long-term vision. Jonathan is responsible for a portfolio of R&D projects and maintaining strategic roadmaps giving guidance to the Utility. This involves close interaction with policy makers, international standardisation bodies, academia, research organisations, SMEs and large-scale enterprise in the areas of Science, Technology, ICT and Innovation.

Neil has worked in manufacturing for almost 30 years, having originally graduated as a mechanical engineer from Queens University Belfast in 1988. He also obtained an MBA in 1992.

He has been with the Glen Dimplex Group since 2000, holding various positions within the heating and renewables businesses. In October 2016 he was appointed CEO of the newly formed Heating and Ventilation division (GDHV), bringing together a number of Group businesses in the electrical heating, ventilation, water heating, decorative fire and renewables sectors. Neil has a passion for business excellence and is driven to make GDHV a leading, world-class business in its field. Underpinning this is a desire to build an innovative culture and to develop a team capable of delivering excellence in all areas.

In her current role at MVV Energie, Dr. Doris Wittneben works mainly in the area of innovative heating solutions. Doris has coordinated innovation projects in particular in the area of fuel cells and CHP in residential applications. In addition to her doctorate in Chemistry, she is an expert in strategic management, business administration as well as in innovation management and systemic change management.

Didier joined Swisscom Energy Solutions in May 2016 to manage operations within the company, encompassing R&D delivery, energy services production, quality, manufacturing and logistics. Didier began his career in 1989 at Philips where he held several technical and management positions in the Digital TV area of the business. In 2001, he moved to Technicolor (ex-Thomson) as Head of Digital TV Set-Top Box R&D before taking over running the newly created IP-TV business unit. In 2006, he went back to Philips as Senior Vice President, running the TV decoder activities in North and South America before taking the position of CTO of the television division. In 2011, he created Siligence, a company specialised in the design and delivery of advanced consumer digital terminals. Within four years he led it to €30M top line with positive EBITDA and cashflow, with Tier 1 customers such as Swisscom and Orange. Didier studied at the Ecole Polytechnique and holds a PhD in High Energy Nuclear Physics and an Executive MBA from ESSEC Business School.

Jon has 18 years’ experience in the distributed energy, heat and energy services sectors. As a founding director of Delta-ee, Jon has worked extensively across Europe (and beyond) with energy companies, network companies, equipment manufacturers and technology developers, policy makers and investors.

Jon currently has responsibility for all Delta-ee’s research services, as well as getting involved in consulting projects and relationship management with our clients. He has launched, managed and directed numerous research services and consultancy assignments at Delta-ee. Projects range from board level strategy work for major manufacturing companies; analysing opportunities for ‘new energy’ business models for major utility companies; to detailed analysis of customer needs and wants, and modelling the impact of electrification of heat on networks.

Prior to founding Delta-ee, Jon worked for Platts, managing E Source’s distributed energy research, and the UK’s Energy Saving Trust, managing their energy services and CHP programmes. Jon holds an MSc in Environmental Technology (specialising in Energy Policy) and a BSc in Physics.
